Guaire

Tiendaderecha presents the photographic project "Guaire" from Amada Granado. The exhibition will be open until 6th of October in c/ Alegre de Dalt,16. Barcelona.



Together with the photographs, it is being shown the video "Apuntes de Barcelona", from the director Andrés Duque. The film stablishes a relationship between the Guaire river (Caracas) and the lost river of Cagalell, that was buried with the building of the Barcelona's Ramblas.

Another nice example of architecture intervention by means of projection. This kind of mix between architecture and performance, whether using LEDs, sounds, lasers, holographs, etc. is the most evident example of an entire new discipline:
liquid architecture, "an architecture whose form is contingent on the interests of the beholder. (...) Liquid architecture makes liquid cities, cities that change at the shift of a value, where visitors with different backgrounds see different landmarks, where neighborhoods vary with ideas held in common, and evolve as the ideas mature or dissolve." The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture, the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers "Galerie der Gegenwart". Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement.

When photography was a ceremony...

Since 1960, Malick Sidibé (Mali, 1936) has produced photographs in his studio, Studio Malick, located in Bamako. These images with their pure gaze document popular culture in his city. A vast majority of the photos he took during the 1970s ended up generating an extensive catalog of urban characters and types, the result of working with a sincere documentary approach without hang-ups of feeling superior to them. As a result, Sidibé has achieved producing photographs far removed from the prejudices of a Western gaze cast upon other cultures.




PHE- Today you’re a renowned photographer, and your photos have traveled all over the world. How did you start out in photography?

Malick Sidibé- I studied at the school of arts because I liked to draw. Then I began in photography by working with a French photographer in 1957. At the time, I was the youngest photographer in the city.

Luckily, I was the only one who had a flash, so I began to take photographs of parties at night. I was at the studio until midnight or one in the morning until I went out to take photos at parties. I would go back to my studio, develop the film, and on Mondays and Tuesdays I would hang the photos in my shop so young people could come and choose the ones they liked the most...

Building Art

The Ars Electronica Center of Linz used the 1085 LED lights of its facade to show this audiovisual piece from the artists Zachary Lieberman, Joel Gethin, Damian Stewart and music composed by Daito Manabe.

LOOP Videoart

This thursday starts in Barcelona the LOOP Videoart Festival...



LOOP is the annual meeting point for video art professionals based on the triple format of Festival, Fair and discussion Panels. LOOP Festival presents the work of over 800 artists at many different venues in Barcelona’s city centre. LOOP Fair is the first fair specialising in video art, and features more than 40 participating galleries and distributors showing the latest works by international artists.

Kagami. "Mirror" in japanese. I reflect myself in everyone of them. I reflect myself in each woman, in each man, in each drop of water of the rhytmic rain that always walks with me. I see my image inside the crowd, thru their transparent umbrellas that cross the bright and vanishing streets of Tokyo. Rain wraps me up, caress me, hits me, and cleans me. I think I'm travelling without moving my body, but I'm there, thousand kilometers far away and at the same time so close to myself.

Cuenca is PHotoEspaña’s headquarters for the third consecutive year. This year the city hosts a selection of exhibitions proposed by embassies and institutes from other countries. The initiative turns Cuenca into an international meeting point, opening up a section of the festival dedicated entirely to international photography.

Eight countries will participate in this edition with their proposed exhibitions: Belgium (BlowUp: Un collectif d´images:), Colombia (Contratextos), Greece (Nikos Markou. Topos:Nuances of space), Italy (Franco Fontana.Comparing lands), the Netherlands (Pages, A New Generation of Photo Books from the Netherlands), Portugal (Joshua Benoliel (1873-1932) Photojournalist.), Rumania (Iosif Király. Reconstructions) and the United Kingdom (Julian Germain. Classroom Portraits). Also, activities such as workshops, conferences and talks will be held in Cuenca in conjunction with the exhibitions. From 3 June until 26 July.

Urban Motion project unveiled at Milan International Film Festival

Short film festivals are always great for finding new, inspiring work. But usually they're pretty formulaic - lots of films screened inside a darkened cinema. However, the biggest film at this year's Milan International Film Festival from Italian creative agency abstract:groove wasn't screened in the cinema at all - it was projected onto it.

Building Urban Motion used light and music to transform the Arcobaleno cinema in Milan's Viale Tunisia into an architectural hallucination.

Your Mother Doesn't Work Here

4th June starts in the Kessels Kramer Outlet an exhibition of well executed wit and spewed bile. This collection of anger led messages left on fridge doors and empty loo rolls tell us what happens when the softly, softly approach no longer works and that a declaration of war can begin with the word ‘please’.



The cult website Passiveaggressivenotes.com started in May 2007 by Kerry Miller after the trauma of living in a shared house. Her blog of anger filled messages has been a constant source of amusement for anyone who knows what it’s like to live with others. Gaining many plaudits it has over 3 million hits a month, won numerous website awards and spawned the book YOUR MOTHER DOESN’T WORK HERE: Painfully Polite and Hilariously Hostile Writings.

Opening night: Thursday 4 June, 7-9 PM
Exhibition runs from 4 - 30 June 2009

Comienza hoy la exposición Bodegas Las Vegas en el espacio Miscelänea. Comisariada por Michael Swaney, la exposición es una especie de 2x1, ya que presenta trabajos de los artistas Andrés Pascual y Oscar Lozano.

The Influencers

Comienza este jueves la quinta edición de The Influencers, un festival que explora los medios no convencionales de comunicación. Por el CCCB pasarán durante esta semana algunos exponentes clave de lo que podríamos definir como comunicación o arte de guerrilla. Gente como BLU, Improv Everywhere y Julius Von Bismarck mostrarán sus proyectos y demostrarán como manipular los medios puede convertirse en una forma de arte.


Como curiosidad, la imagen del festival este año ha sido diseñada por nuestros amigos de Todojunto.

Johan Kramer en el CCCB

Durante el mes de enero el CCCB presenta una retrospectiva del director de cine holandés Johan Kramer. Con una obra que abarca documentales, largometrajes, instalaciones, fotografía y publicidad, el autor celebra sus 44 años con la proyección de 44 piezas en la pantalla del vestíbulo del CCCB.

Arranca mañana el Festival Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona. Bajo el título-slogan de Réveille-toi! el festival pretende llamar la atención sobre el fenómeno del consumo, la moda, la publicidad y sus efectos en nuestra sociedad.


Entre las obras seleccionadas se encuantra la instalaciónSoap Opera, (chapter 2) de la artista residente en Berlín, Cristina Artola.

"Jeder mensch ist ein künstler" / "cada persona es un artista". Con esta frase de Beuys se identifica el weblog Yummy! ink.

Nacido como un tributo a Joseph Beuys y a su legendario editor Gerhard Steidl, el nombre del blog hace referencia a su temática: el olor de la tinta, el tacto del papel y el disfrute de las encuadernaciones exquisitas que caracterizan a la pasión de la autora por las mejores ediciones de arte y fotografía. Un mundo que como podemos descubrir en este blog, va mucho más allá de Taschen.

Paul Freeth en Zaragoza'08

Comisionado por BaseMotion, Paul ha realizado el vídeo para el Pabellón de La Sed en la Expo Zaragoza 2008. La video-instalación consiste en una pantalla de 30 metros de largo, modelada de manera que se asemeje al lecho seco de un rio. Sobre esta estructura se proyectan secuencias que evocan el efecto de las sequías sobre el entorno.
