Another nice example of architecture intervention by means of projection. This kind of mix between architecture and performance, whether using LEDs, sounds, lasers, holographs, etc. is the most evident example of an entire new discipline:
liquid architecture, "an architecture whose form is contingent on the interests of the beholder. (...) Liquid architecture makes liquid cities, cities that change at the shift of a value, where visitors with different backgrounds see different landmarks, where neighborhoods vary with ideas held in common, and evolve as the ideas mature or dissolve." (Marcos Novak)

When photography was a ceremony...
Since 1960, Malick Sidibé (Mali, 1936) has produced photographs in his studio, Studio Malick, located in Bamako. These images with their pure gaze document popular culture in his city. A vast majority of the photos he took during the 1970s ended up generating an extensive catalog of urban characters and types, the result of working with a sincere documentary approach without hang-ups of feeling superior to them. As a result, Sidibé has achieved producing photographs far removed from the prejudices of a Western gaze cast upon other cultures.
PHE- Today you’re a renowned photographer, and your photos have traveled all over the world. How did you start out in photography?
Malick Sidibé- I studied at the school of arts because I liked to draw. Then I began in photography by working with a French photographer in 1957. At the time, I was the youngest photographer in the city.
Luckily, I was the only one who had a flash, so I began to take photographs of parties at night. I was at the studio until midnight or one in the morning until I went out to take photos at parties. I would go back to my studio, develop the film, and on Mondays and Tuesdays I would hang the photos in my shop so young people could come and choose the ones they liked the most...

This thursday starts in Barcelona the LOOP Videoart Festival...
LOOP is the annual meeting point for video art professionals based on the triple format of Festival, Fair and discussion Panels. LOOP Festival presents the work of over 800 artists at many different venues in Barcelona’s city centre. LOOP Fair is the first fair specialising in video art, and features more than 40 participating galleries and distributors showing the latest works by international artists.

OpenPHoto
Cuenca is PHotoEspaña’s headquarters for the third consecutive year. This year the city hosts a selection of exhibitions proposed by embassies and institutes from other countries. The initiative turns Cuenca into an international meeting point, opening up a section of the festival dedicated entirely to international photography.
Eight countries will participate in this edition with their proposed exhibitions: Belgium (BlowUp: Un collectif d´images:), Colombia (Contratextos), Greece (Nikos Markou. Topos:Nuances of space), Italy (Franco Fontana.Comparing lands), the Netherlands (Pages, A New Generation of Photo Books from the Netherlands), Portugal (Joshua Benoliel (1873-1932) Photojournalist.), Rumania (Iosif Király. Reconstructions) and the United Kingdom (Julian Germain. Classroom Portraits). Also, activities such as workshops, conferences and talks will be held in Cuenca in conjunction with the exhibitions. From 3 June until 26 July.

Urban Motion project unveiled at Milan International Film Festival
Short film festivals are always great for finding new, inspiring work. But usually they're pretty formulaic - lots of films screened inside a darkened cinema. However, the biggest film at this year's Milan International Film Festival from Italian creative agency abstract:groove wasn't screened in the cinema at all - it was projected onto it.
Building Urban Motion used light and music to transform the Arcobaleno cinema in Milan's Viale Tunisia into an architectural hallucination.

Cut&Paste
Este sábado se celebra en Barcelona el concurso Cut & Paste, un concurso de diseño 2D, 3D y motion graphics. La competición se realiza en 16 diferentes ciudades del mundo, con una gran final en Nueva York.
La curiosidad de este evento es que las piezas gráficas con las que se compite han de ser creadas en directo, bajo la presión del tiempo y la atenta mirada de la audiencia.

The Betrayal - Nerakhoon
The Betrayal - Nerakhoon es un largometraje producido por Flora Fernández Marengo, una de las socias de Pioneer Productions, la productora asociada con Agosto.
El documental, que ahora se estrena en Argentina, está realizado por la reconocida directora de fotografía Ellen Kuras (Eterno Resplandor de una Mente sin Recuerdo, Blow, Analízame) y la co-dirección de Thavisouk Phrasavath.
The Betrayal - Nerakhoon cuenta la historia de una familia en su épico viaje del Laos destrozado por la guerra a las calles de Nueva York. Thavisouk Phrasavath cuenta su propia historia como un joven tratando de sobrevivir tanto a la guerra, como a la difícil situación de inmigrante junto con su madre. Ellen Kuras debuta como directora con la destacada colaboración del propio Phrasavath como co-director. Un poético y profundo film personal acerca de la cara oculta de la guerra y de sus víctimas.
La peícula fue finalista en los Oscar y ha sido reconocida en otros festivales como el London Film Festival, el festival de Sundance, el Festival de Berlín. Obtuvo el premio como mejor documental en el Festival Ann Arbour y el premio Spectrum en el Full Frame.

The Influencers
Comienza este jueves la quinta edición de The Influencers, un festival que explora los medios no convencionales de comunicación. Por el CCCB pasarán durante esta semana algunos exponentes clave de lo que podríamos definir como comunicación o arte de guerrilla. Gente como BLU, Improv Everywhere y Julius Von Bismarck mostrarán sus proyectos y demostrarán como manipular los medios puede convertirse en una forma de arte.
Como curiosidad, la imagen del festival este año ha sido diseñada por nuestros amigos de Todojunto.

La mano que mira
El festival de cine documental PUNTO DE VISTA acaba de lanzar el libro+DVD de La mano que mira, con una pieza de Andrés Duque.
La mano que mira es un proyecto que reune siete documentales rodados específicamente para el festival. La premisa era contar una historia real sobre un viaje (en toda la extensión del concepto "viaje") utilizando únicamente un teléfono móvil.
La película de Andrés, Life between worlds not in fixed reality, nace del encuentro fortuito que tuvo durante un rodaje con una persona completamente ajena al mundo del cine. Comunicación, realismo y juego de miradas en una bella historia donde sobran las palabras.

Arranca mañana el Festival Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona. Bajo el título-slogan de Réveille-toi! el festival pretende llamar la atención sobre el fenómeno del consumo, la moda, la publicidad y sus efectos en nuestra sociedad.

Andrés Duque en Gandules'08
La próxima semana comienza el ciclo de cine Gandules 08, con la interculturalidad como tema central.
Este año el proyecto es más ambicioso que en ediciones anteriores. Además de ser una plataforma de difusión, Gandules08 se convierte en espacio de creación. Para ello el CCCB ha encargado a cuatro realizadores la creación de unos cortos específicos para el ciclo. Entre los realizadores seleccionados, nuestro compañero Andrés Duque, con su obra "No es la imagen, es el objeto":
"¿Cuantas horas podrías pasarte mirando este cromo?", le dice Pedro P. a José Sirgado en la película "Arrebato". "Yo también guardo mi album preferido de la infancia. Se titula Hombres, razas y costumbres. Cada página me revela nuevas leturas, a veces imprecisas y extrañas, sobre quienes somos y qué es el mundo".

Malaflor en la 60" Battle
60" Battle es un proyecto de Carlitosypatricia basado en las legendarias MC's Battles, pero aplicado al terreno audiovisual. Dos equipos de creadores se enfrentan presentando sus referencias con el único propósito de ganarse al público y de batir al equipo rival a base de hits de 60 segundos. La velada tendrá lugar el 31 de mayo en el Caixaforum.

The Influencers
The Influencers es un festival que explora formas controvertidas de arte y guerrilla de la comunicación, presentando proyectos independientes que juegan con las culturas populares globales, se infiltran en la comunicación de masas y someten a mutación las modas, el consumo y el fetichismo tecnológico.
Esta cuarta edición del festival The Influencers se presenta en el CCCB de Barcelona, y hoy estará invitado como conferenciante mi amigo Santi Cirugeda, arquitecto activista especializado en urbanismo alegal.
